You promised you’d be back. The first time you visited Taos Ski Valley was just a day trip. You drove north to the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, found perfect powder, and skied on one of the most challenging mountains in the West. Then you returned to Santa Fe and spent the next few days wishing […]
The Southwest is one of the more exotic regions of the United States, covering parts of the Mojave, Sonoran, and Chihuahuan Deserts, plus the Colorado Plateau (which, for the record, is basically a high desert). Temperatures here can soar to 125°F in the summer and drop to below freezing (perfect for skiing!) in the winter—and […]
Since visiting Big Bend for the first time, I was dreaming of pitching our tent at the stunning Chisos Basin campground. We snatched a spot in the busy holiday period and spend Christmas Eve under a sky full of stars.

Plan ahead for your winter escape with a buy-out of Panama’s 14-island Islas Secas resort, available starting in December.
To take the private island experience to the next level this winter, head 20 miles off the Pacific coast of Panama to Islas Secas, a resort spread out over a privately owned, 14-island archipelago dotting the Gulf of Chiriquí. While the resort is currently closed in adherence with Covid-19-related restrictions, it’s planning to reopen in high style this December by offering the chance to buy-out the whole place, for rates starting a $18,000 a night. The resort will also be rolling out new private jet transfers from Panama City’s international airport which, when added to the host of included services and amenities, will help ensure a winter getaway that’s both memorable and the ultimate in social distancing.
How far away do you need to go to feel safe, truly safe, during a pandemic? Some people just need to drive a few hours into the mountains. Others need a long trip to the countryside. It might take a remote island for you. It doesn’t get much more remote than Saint Helena, Ascension & […]

Yes it’s another venture into a country that, as with most places in the world, you can’t get to right now. Myanmar is the current name for Burma, a South-East Asian country bordering Bangladesh and Thailand, not to mention China and India. In recent years Myanmar has gone from a place that was hard to get into and controlled by a hardline military dictatorship to an exciting new destination on the South-East Asian touring map. However, there certainly are still questions about the governing of Myanmar and especially its treatment of minorities.
Nevertheless, it’s up to you whether this will affect your choice to go to Myanmar and frankly right now you don’t have a choice anyways! But imagine you do… imagine in fact the year is 2015 and you are me, and step into the country known as Burma. I mean Myanmar.
